About Bowen
History

Thomas Bowen (1916-1982) began developing his technique of soft tissue release in Geelong, Victoria in the 1950's. He was keenly passionate to relieve human suffering and found that certain certain moves in particular key points on the body had particular effects such as rapid relief of many symptoms. He working on many thousands of clients a year with remarkable long term results achieved in just a few sessions.

Why choose Bowen Therapy?

Bowen is a unique form of bodywork that involves gentle "trigger point" release moves at precise points around the body. These unique Bowen moves are applied either through loose, light clothing, or directly on skin.
These moves utilise our body's biofeedback (nervous response) system to encourage muscles and surrounding tissue to release areas in spasm. When the spasm relaxes , the surrounding tissue looses it's tension. This surrounding tissue (known as fascia) contains an important and intricate network of nerves, microcirculation, and our essential lymphatic system which works by transporting waste products from body tissues to be broken down and excreted by the body.
When muscle spasms are released in a gentle way with Bowen moves, the tension of the precious surrounding fascia is reduced and brings about reduction in pain, swelling and restoration of healthy circulation and nerve impulses.

Healthy Fascia, Healthy Body

Restoring normal levels of tissue tension has a "knock on" effect to our body's many vital organs that are suspended in this complex network of fascia. It is logical that tense tissues surrounding your internal organs would place pressure and therefore a type of "stress"on the organ which could inevitably affect the function of that organ.

Bowen Therapy relieves muscle tension, helps the body to restore symmetry of the spine, jaw and pelvis. In doing this, it helps the body to improve circulation, remove congestion and reduce pain from chronically inflamed and tense areas.
